Outboard Boat Plans - Choosing The Right Plan
Author: Geoff M.
Are you wondering if an outboard boat plan is the right choice for you? Here in this article, we will go over the things to keep in mind with this kind of boat.
An outboard boat has a propulsion system wherein there's an engine, gearbox and jet drive, all of which are designed to be mounted outside of the transom. Outboard system are also responsible for providing steering control thus controlling the direction of the thrust.
There are some issues which needs to be considered in building a boat using an outboard boat plans. Some of these are:
TRIM
This refers to the angle of the motor to the hull. The ideal angle should be one in which the hull is on the surface instead of plowing through the waters.
Optimal trim will depend largely on factors such as speed, weight , balance and hull design. Of course you will also need to consider the water condition in designing the trim.
MOTOR MOUNTING HEIGHT
To achieve optimum performance, the motor on the transom is an important consideration. The design should allow for a motor to be as high as possible without loss of water pressure. This will result in greater speed while minimizing hydrodynamic drag.
VENTILATION
This phenomenon occurs when exhaust gas is drawn into the spinning blades which would cause to no generation of the thrust. The factors that has to be looked into with this phenomenon are: motor mounted too high or it could be that the motor is trimmed out excessively. Also, you may have to check if there's a damage to the anti-ventilation plate or propeller. Or it is also possible that foreign matter are lodged in the diffusing ring.
CAVITATION
In relation to outboard motors, cavitation often results when a foreign object like seaweeds are lodged on the lower unit causing interruption of water flow into the propeller blades.
These are some of the things you have to keep in mind when building an outboard boat.
Also, I would like to point out that outboard boat are better than inboard boats in a sense that you can easily remove its power source for maintenance.
If you are keen on building a boat with an outboard boat plans, you may want to take a look at this catalog of boat plans which I find very helpful. It will also give you an idea what goes into building a good inboard or outboard boat and all the consideration discussed here are also incorporated in the boat plan.

Yes, but there are no scheduled passenger liners anymore, which makes it both very expensive (basically a cruise ship) and very difficult.
Before you get too involved with dreaming of coming to Australia, I suggest that you follow this link to the very informative government site to see if you stand any chance of getting in anyway.
It is also a very difficult process.

Cairns – Cairns – Cairns !
North Queensland. http://www.cairns.com.au You can’t see the Great Barrier Reef from Sydney. Sydney to Cairns it’s about a 3-4 hour flight.
Main tour operators are :: http://www.greatadventures.com.au and http://www.quicksilver-cruises.com Most companies do the glass bottom boat, snorkelling and diving, but for something different try the http://www.scubadoocairns.com or http://www.seawalker.com.au/english_site/
A day trip out to Green Island – Otherwise you can go out on the Outer Barrier Reef on their platform for lunch. Most ‘tourism’ operators will do pick ups from your accommodation.
Seasonal info on the GBR – http://www.divethereef.com/Guides/SeasonsF.asp
If you are doing Sydney and other cities in Australia, I would suggest fly into Cairns (yes we do have an International airport) See the Great Barrier Reef and other attractions here, then head down the coast to Brisbane > Sydney etc… Cruise ships also come into Cairns.
Port Douglas is about a 50 min drive from Cairns city – worth it for the scenery. – You can also go out on the Great Barrier Reef from there also.

For accommodation in Port Douglas – http://www.portdouglasaccom.com.au
Other things to see in Cairns

I could go on forever here … but check out the cairns.com.au – it lists all the ‘Top ten things MUST do’s in Cairns’ and alot of info. The website was only lauched last week.
Have a great trip !

The main thing is a heavy displacement cruiser. Size is debatable among the brave and the free. LOL!
There are couples that have traveled around the world (Circumnavigation) in 28 foot Pearson Tritons. Though they a little tight for two, they are ocean worthy.
Here what I am looking for. 28-35 foot, cruiser, ketch/yawl with a full keel. It not too concern with the type auxiliary engine, but, would think a Diesel be best as the fuel not as flammable. The reason for a ketch/yawl is it spread out your sail area into more one person can manage. But, all this depends on what you want, need and can handle.
I get you a few pics of what I like, but, I looking for the right price. I will try to include a Triton.
Cheoy Lee is a classic of mine. Well made in Hong Kong. Some have Fiberglass Hulls and Teak decks.

I like the Bruce Roberts, but, it hard finding a Ketch/Yawl. This is a sloop. Also, this is a Fin keel with rudder, I refer to this as a split keel. It a good keel, but, I just want a full keel. Personal preference.

Sparkman & Stevens are nice boats. This a racer/cruiser so, for myself may be light on Stability. It a pretty boat. It all wood and would be a head turner in any port. But, wood may not be your cup-o-tea.

This a few I like as far as Designs. I want to say. Cheoy Lee is the builder. The others are the Desingner and we not know who built them. Though most are probably built well or they would have sunk long ago.
Here the home page of the boats I show you;
http://www.sailboatlistings.com/
This a good site to browse by Design to see what they look like and then you can narrow your search to States.
I have to show this boat. I very tempeted as she is a beauty in my book. This a 28 foot Herreshoff. She a wood boat, wood masts and from 1959. But, I bet she can still cut-a-rug.

My partner suffered an injury on a dive boat in Australia. How do we get them to pay for medical, etc?
We were sitting on the middle deck of a snorkel/dive boat when their 6 ft. heavy metal dive sign snapped off the top deck as we were full speed into wind and swung down into my partner’s side/ribs/back area. It had been taped, so it was not secure to begin with. We have pictures and witnesses. The captain said he “expected to see blood and guts” when he stopped the boat and came running back.
Fortunately the sharp metal edges did not puncture her skin, but the day of snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef was ruined. The company did not charge us for the day, but have refused to pay for transportation to hospital, xrays and doctor the next day. We had to change plans the rest of the trip to accommodate her injury and 1 month later she is still in pain. Who do we contact to help reach some resolution?
An incident report was filed with the company. They in fact wanted her to see their personal physician once we returned to the dock-but we declined. We wanted to choose our own doctor if necessary.

What city or cities in Australia are closest to the Great Barrier Reef??
What city or cities do I need to plan to visit in Australia in order to have an opportunity to visit, see, and/or take a glass bottom boat trip over the Great Barrier Reef??? Is the GBR close enough to Sydney to go there and see it in one day or do I need to actually fly to another city (what city) that’s closer to get a day trip to the GBR.??
Anyone know any good tour companies that do Reef tours??? … URL’s would be nice.
You will never know my real name
